Featured Speaker -- John Harland, Principal Engineer, Intel Corporation

What is sustainability? The answer you receive may depend on who you ask! John Harland, Design for the Environment Program Manager of Intel describes sustainability based on Intel’s business model. Earlier this year, Intel was selected in the Global 100 list of the most sustainable large corporations in the world. During his kick-off presentation, Harland will describe the journey that Intel has taken to become more sustainable in its manufacturing operation, with respect to its product designs, the product applications Intel has designed to promote sustainability, and how the company has engaged employees in its quest by harnessing their ingenuity and creativity.

Roundtable Interactive Discussion

This panel discussion will involve experts from a variety of backgrounds including, politicians, local government, academia and business, who will spend a few minutes discussing sustainability-type activities they are engaged in, how their programs were developed, and what are the results of their efforts. Following the individual presentations, an interactive moderated discussion will take place involving the panelists and the audience on how to move sustainable practices forward in our communities, while creating “green jobs” and conserving resources.

AWARDS DINNER – Speaker – Dr. Ben Schwegler, Vice President and Chief Scientist at Walt Disney Imagineering, Research & Development, inc. and professor at Stanford University, will be this year’s dinner speaker at the conference.    

Walt Disney Imagineering is the research and development arm of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. Imagineering also includes Walt Disney Creative Entertainment, the company which utilizes Imagineering techniques among others to create shows, fireworks displays and parades at the Disney theme parks. Imagineering is one the most sustainable companies in the world.

Mr. Schwegler’s presentation will focus on Disney’s “Sea Level Change Project”, which will detail the sustainable steps Disney Corporation is taking to address the threat of rising sea levels due to climate change.
